I use PSP, it automatically strips the EXIF - I have no idea how to save a picture with EXIF intact.
I really wish the submission form would remember my default camera and lens like it used to.

Many, if not most, of us strip the EXIF when we save for web, to gain a few kb in image quality AND to preserve anonymity in the challenge process.

I couldn't upload with safari had toswitchto chrome or Firefox and it worked fine, forum seems to work fine on iPad at mo though
I like putting a face to a name makes the comments more real IMHO if that makes sense humanises them |

I think the upload problem is with Safari on a Mac. Will they get this fixed? |

Very nice. |
While I agree that "control freak" was not nice, I do have to also wonder why you're concerned about this at all? I'm afraid that it just doesn't make any sense - of course I feel the same way about people who are over-diligent about any one aspect of security - since it's so easy to just find another chink in the armor. |
Hey Cory. It's not anything really about security overall, it just seems strange to have your profile photo all of sudden showing up all over the forums and even comments left on photos.
As for having a profile photo visible on my profile page it kind of makes sense to have one there (you know - "profile" page). When people come to "visit" my profile page I thought it was a polite thing to do to have a profile photo posted. However, having it posted all over DPC just doesn't feel right to me. Call me old-fashioned I guess.
Anyway, I still think it should be an option, and certainly not something that just pops up all of a sudden without fair warning. |

I agree that it really IS nice when people have a profile photo, but if it worries you so much, you could always wear a wig, a fake beard and big sun glasses. |

But that isn't the point. Some of us actually feel that it's NOT "polite" to go sticking our mugs all over the place, every time we post. It's a "Look at me!" kind of issuie. I always thought it was refreshing that DPC did NOT use any sort of user-generated avatar, it made the p[lace sort of classy.

I would think if you turn off profile pics in forums, you won't see your pic there either and hence won't be subject to the discomfort. ;-) |

Keep in mind that some people have trouble remembering names and the pictures make it easier to work out who is who in the conversation. I have had the visible avatars in the forums for a couple of years now...so I have been seeing everyones ugly mug for quite some time, which has really helped me.....and only NOW do you start cracking up over people seeing your face in the forums? You have two options here....either turn off the option so you can't see it or change your avatar for a blank image and hide behind your insecurities! It appears to me Bear that you like to be in full charge and be given an option in everything. When there is no option given you start complaining instead of just accepting things as they are. It never bothered you before that people saw your mug all over the place...so why does it bother you now?

Yeah, but for some people it's not about what they SEE as much as it is about how they represent themselves. I'm not one of these people, actually; I'm fine with this. I agree, if it's visually too obnoxious I can turn it off. I just don't think it's fair for anyone to act like Dad's being a lunatic for having personal misgivings about this. I know where he's coming from.
Anyway, the obvious solution is to post as a profile picture some innocuous graphic of some sort, I suppose.

Oh I agree 100% with the "classy" part. Now it's just too cluttered and has an amateurish feel to it.
And Art, I DO have them turned off. |

I have no problems with my photo appearing in the forum threads and as a matter of fact rather enjoy seeing the images of others as it makes me feel closer to them.
I have had the great pleasure of meeting quite a few DPC members, smile whenever I see an image of these folks and reminisce about the good times we have shared together and the sites we visited.
Similarly, I love looking at images of those people I have not met as it provides me with the opportunity to determine if my "mental image" of these fine folks is remotely close to reality.
Lastly to paraphrase an erudite member of this site:
"I'll repeat what I just posted - YOU CAN TURN THEM OFF in your prefs."
That's my view of this situation.

<<<<<<< - likes the new avatars.
I would prefer to see images of the people as it puts a face to the comments on images as well as in the forums which is really nice.
It also makes it easier to find posts from the same person (harder to spot the same name)
I doubt I will get to meet many of you in person so this is the next best thing.
