Hey all

I have a piece of hockey memorabilia that I want to sell. Obviously I want to get top dollar for it. I don't want someone to tell me it's only worth $50, then turn around and sell it on eBay for $500! I've heard that there are reputable dealers online but am having a hard time finding them! I'd much rather sell it myself and ask a reserve price. But no point doing so unless I know what it's actually worth.

So if anyone out there collects sports memorabilia themselves, or knows either a serious reputable dealer who can give me a fair assessment? And I will not send the piece in question to anyone for appraisal - if it has to be seen in person by a potential buyer, I'll be there with it.

You could look here and you might get a good lead or even some information as to the value of what it is you wish to sell.

Good luck,

Thanks Ray, as the item in question has direct ties to Jacques Martin it might prove useful.

How about checking on EBAY and see if you can find similar items. Worth a try...

You can filter and search "ended auctions" on eBay to get a closer grasp of how things are selling, and what ads bring in the better prices.

Have considered checking ended auctions for the results, but don't know how to rate what I have against the ones currently up. For starters, most memorabilia is signed by players.

What I have dates back to the Salt Lake Winter Olympics and is signed by 5 members of the coaching /executive team, not players themselves....though obviously they all once played hockey themselves.

Check with local sports memorabilia shops and see what they would offer you for it. Average them out and triple that amount. That should put you in the right ballpark.

Around here are a couple of places which handle estate auctions and the like, and they both offer a free "appraisal clinic" one morning each week, when you can bring in a few items for a free estimate of their potential auction value.
