Like Joshua, ( MinsoPhoto ) i've also just shot a wedding (although it wasn't quite new years eve) and would appreciated any thoughts. It's not my first wedding but i'm still pretty green! It was a pretty tricky one to shoot. A legal ceremony during the day followed by wedding breakfast and speeches in a lovely old library. The hard bit came later when it got dark as they had a hand fasting ceremony by candle light complete with a blacksmith and anvil hammering away making a special piece for them. This was followed by a large fire maze which the couple happily flew through. So, wonderfully exciting stuff but not the easiest to photograph! I've tried to use the tricky lighting conditions to my advantage and gone for a kind of filmic style (this also complimented the bride's Monroe-esque look)

Now, my membership has just expired and i need to renew so can't post thumbnails but i've started a new blog for photography work and this is the first post...

here...

Crikey, Clive! I think these pics are sensational! I could never have imagined a wedding shot by CPN, but now that I have seen it I can only think that Magnus & Bella must be thrilled beyond words by your photographs. I have no clue about how difficult it must have been in the conditions, but the photographs are absolutely superb, mate. This is the first time since I browsed a couple of Julia Bailey weddings a few years ago that I have seen something in the genre as original and durable as this. Congratulations on a wonderful job.

Those are killer. They definitely look like something out of a film. Really fantastic work, and what is better is they have a unique style. Great job... can I come shoot with you lol :)

Aw, cheers Paul. I have to admit, i couldn't quite have an imagined a wedding shot by cpn either until i did a couple and found that i really enjoyed them. I'm making a big push to do more in the future and trying to go into business mode which, i admit, i find really hard. I'm hoping having a distinctive style can be helpful and i do have a couple more bookings coming in so i think that may be the case. Still, it's going to mostly down to marketing i imagine as to whether i make it.

Cheers Joshua! Ha! I would love to do a 'team-up'! Those of us just starting out trying to make a business out of it should stick together! Or we could do an exchange. I'll head over to Virginia and you can come to drizzly wet Wales! That i'd certainly like!

I think they're incredible. At the outset, I would hope that by the couple asking you, they'd know your style, but this is EXACTLY what I would expect. And I mean that in the BEST way possible. Very nice, photos, amazed to see the D300 perform so well given the lighting conditions. While the ceremony was untraditional, your style was as perfect a fit as could ever be had. Very nice.

Thanks guys! Yes, the couple were very pleased. I'm looking forward to the next one. I have one booked in April and one in June. Hopefully i can get on a roll and get a few more in. It's all down to marketing marketing marketing now i think. And advertising which is going to entail some money out before i get it back in. My immediate plan of action is to get some local advertising going. Local free papers and magazines and a few drop adverts. There is a magazine called South Wales Weddings which is widely bought and popular so an advert in that would be great. A bit pricey but their Jul/Aug edition this year has a photography feature so an ad in that one issue would be good. Apart from that i'm just going to practice the technical aspects and get a few more kid and family portraits going to make the website more varied and to keep the blog active. I've updated the site here... . Still need to do a bit more work on it taking into consideration some of the other ideas on the other thread i posted (a biography page etc). I'm still trying to get the SEO to be better but that is a bit baffling really.

Remarkable work, Clive. Unique and powerful. That couple was destined to have you as their photog. The only bit of advice I could possibly deal you is from a director's pov, especially after an extremely successful and unique experience. Be prepared, but approach each assignment with a blank slate of expectations.

That's great advice Johanna. Thanks. I'm planning on going in to the next one fully prepared and, like you say, a blank slate of expectations. It is going to be a completely different type of wedding for one thing.
