My brother bought this Nissan Altima 2012 just two weeks ago. There are two things affixed to the top of the trunk we can't figure out. We flipped through the manual, but there's no mention of them.

Well, the one on the right with the fins looks like it could be an amplifier. I would guess that both of them have to do with the audio system.

Oh duh, now that I look at the heat-sink looking thing I see the word "Bose". Something to do with the sounds system. Computer for reading iPad, maybe??? There are nine speakers in the car, and a touch screen in the dash.

I see the Bose logo so it's going to be the incar entertainment system. The one on the right is styled like a heat sink so presumably will get quite warm and the fins are to help dissipate the heat. The one one left looks like the computer controlling it all. |

I am pretty sure that the one with fins is a preamplifier for your rear speakers. A Bose head unit normally has no Amplified wattage output to keep the sound so crisp and clear. In return they do external amplification to give the drive to the speakers. Yes the one with the fin would create heat.
I would guess the other is a crossover control module/feedback circuit. that talks to the head unit and adjusts based upon the input of the user settings. |
