loooooooooool everyone ! I've cleaned up my first post ... too late, but anyway ... the word "CAT" does not appear THERE anymore :)
Stupid question: who can see what, where and when? I thought that votes and comments were secret during voting? Now I'm really curious: I want to see too? can I? where? please? |

Preferences - under "Voting preferences" check "Hide my name" - that way you are anonymous during voting. Either way, don't let criticism of your photos or your comments get to you. Take whatever you find useful from any feedback you get and just discard the rest.

wooooooo hoooooooooo thanks Art! I shall avoid the "danger zones" from now on :)
what I did was : gave a good vote to a pic that was not TYPICALLY a person portrait and commented how cute it was ... got insulted for that obviously not by the artist himself but by a sour third party who got me right p***ed so I replied tit for tat ...
that's all for now folks :)
Thanks for all the welcomes!! Francesca |

if you leave a comment the user can see the comment during the vote, and who left it unless as art says you go anonymous during voting
i dont mind and leave critical comments if some one felt that offended by one and flamed me in a pm id laugh at them and continue leaving comments, like ive said fawning praising comments are well and good but critical ones pointing out a flaw or failure are better....
i think its ok to explain to someone your idea if they didnt get it but more so in the comments on the image |

Yeah, I never respond to a comment during voting unless it's a very specific question, which is rare. |

Katie, in general, portraiture is imagery which predominantly specializes in a living subject. It is most commonly a human, but there is also pet portraiture, car portraiture, etc. So the poster of the original snitty remark which provoked this thread was wrong. However, in the DPC universe, straying from the narrow interpretation is considered DNMC.
@ Francesca - I love to comment, and I try to give balanced comments - what works and what doesn't, for me. I went anonymous ("baghead" in DPC lingo), because I hated getting confrontational PMs during a challenge. Whatever issue a photog might have with a comment can wait until after rollover. And it's usually a kneejerk reaction since I have never received a PM seeking redress for my comment, after rollover. Except a thank you!
Re scores, there are a couple of score tracking programs written by DPCers for serious DPC addicts. It shows the likely score of each vote. |

Just be warned, you're only anonymous as a 'baghead' during voting. Once voting's over, your sikkrit identity is exposed to all and sundry. |

Welcome aboard, Francesca. Don't worry about not having introduced yourself before jumping in. I still haven't introduced myself and I've been here over 3 years. Now and then a comment provokes a negative reaction from the recipient. Don't worry too much about it, but it can provide a learning experience.
