I have this sunrise shot I want to print large, the orginal is a 60" wide four shot panorama stitch. The only gamut problem area is the ball of the sun (you guessed it). I was wondering if I could add a layer and blend in some in gamut texture- enough just so I won't get a paper white area. I printed a test print 16" wide at Costco and the gamut was not an issue but I fear if I go large I might have a problem (on a expensive print). I'm thinking maybe a metalic print, or canvas so I would appreciate input on how this print might look or potential problems it might pose.
Thanks in advance, for your thoughts and experience

I have an idea that may be able to help you. On my phone now so will give it a bash when I am on the net again.
It involves luminosity masks learnt from Tony Kuiper on his website. |

One good way to economically see exactly what you will get is to crop an 8x10 area including the sun and have it printed. You'll see exactly what you'll get, at the same scale. Then make corrections, but only if you have to.

My idea didn't work as expected - probably because it is not a full size image.
Another option would be to duplicate the layer, paint in a light yellow (selected fom the area around the sun) and then decrease the opacity of the second layer until you have just a hint of colour. Double check that it is not at a level 255 in all 3 of the RGB channels (which is pure white) |

I was thinking along the same lines, Silent Shooter. I'll try that, I might try and look up info on the luminosity mask's you were talking about. Might learn something.
Kirbic, good Idea I'll print full size of that section of the print also, thanks |
