So, it's mundane, can generate x-rays and has the ability to become invisible.
Sound like some crazy comic book material yet? It's all true! Heck, it can even generate light, but doesn't need batteries or mechanical parts - how amazing is this stuff?!!

If it's not then it has to be a hair/lint roller, but the ends of those are usually not this type. *shrug*

hmmmm...i guess i should give an sinisterly cryptic hint.
you're sort of right when you say it could be anything...that is, if you take it into the context that it helps something to be anything and everywere.
figure out what the something is and you'll probably get this.

the inside of the circle is about 3 inches wide, and the circle is hollow. |

See above.. Removed guess that it was a cable-hole in a desk... First photo shows a tube off the back of it that really only could be a speaker port.
ETA: And the something is music I think.
