How would you like this job?

Seems marginally better than "Outhouse Basement Inspector"

That's a thin margin man...

There are no buildings near this trench.
01/26/2012 03:56:46 PM · #1328
Perhaps it is a sewage/waste dump pit?
01/26/2012 04:05:29 PM · #1329
Getting closer. What type of waste.
01/26/2012 04:08:23 PM · #1330
Possibly bottom ash? Or used oil?
01/26/2012 04:12:16 PM · #1331
Cory got it.

This was an ash pit at the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum. Locomotives would drop the hot ash in these pits. I believe there is a piece of ash on the left side. I have a piece at home. I would have posted that. :)

My guess is coal. But based on what's in the pic, it could be anything, there's no clue to what exactly it is/was used for..

Don't expect this to be really hard... But I do expect at least make/model... :)

There should be enough hints here to make this an easy win.

Care to go for the bonus point with the year? :)

Rented a couple of these a few months ago, very fun little cars....

ETA: Wish I could find a good deal on a 458 rental...

Oh, man... if you'd only guessed correctly (2010) I would have given you the remaining rental... (nah, not really... :) )

On the up side - you do now get to post something for us...

Damn it! I thought that would be a tougher one...

It is a detroit Locker for a 12 bolt chevy rear.

Good job, I didn't think there were too many gearheads in here, Leave it to the engineer...

I worked at Eaton Automotive, we designed and built locking diffs.

Crap, doesn't Eaton own Detroit?

Well they need to design a better "lunchbox" style. This one lasted about 25' before it sounded like it was going to rip itself out, slamming and banging. And it is 5000 times easier to put it in than to take it out!

I mostly worked on superchargers and the diffs for Jeeps and the HumVee. ...Until the auto industry tanked and they cleaned house. The Detroit Lockers are considered "mature" and weren't really on my side of the development curve.

That would be too easy.
