Well yeah, but still... It's my personal opinion that these games are most interesting when the mystery objects are, in fact, things that the majority of people actually have in their houses, mundane things that, when recognized, cause everyone who sees them to go "Oh, yeah!" I mean, this is just me but I'm left feeling pretty flat and disinterested when some strange object is finally identified as something that I cannot figure out what it is even AFTER I'm linked to a Wikipedia article about it.

It's as if the game were about showing pictures of people when they were kids and challenge us to guess who they actually are, and it started out with pictures of Sandra Bullock as a 10-year-old and then devolved to the point where you were trying to identify a picture of my Grandmother as a baby...

I do like the idea of the "Liars Club" though :-)

Made you say "Whattheheckizzit?", didn't it?

Oars, or something to hold them or something like that?
01/19/2012 07:31:51 AM · #933
the things bakers use to get bread or pizzas out of ovens, although i think they are called a paddle?
01/19/2012 08:13:26 AM · #934
They look like oars and paddles, stuck in a large foam block, probably on the rafters, for storage in a boathouse. Alternately, on a smaller scale, like wooden cooking utensils, likewise stuck in a block of some sort for organization, though the scale seems off for that?

The composition is probably iron, some copper maybe. Not entirely sure.

Getting much closer...keep going with this. Though, I may award you the guess. For what purpose would these be for?

Used to split logs?

Yes. These are harpoons used aboard the Charles W. Morgan, a whaling ship at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. The ship is undergoing a major restoration.

Wow, props to Paul for finding harpoons, and to Robert for figuring it out! I was scratching my head, didn't have too much time to devote to this one, but I was *stumped*!
01/19/2012 11:04:32 AM · #949
Whoa, no wonder that looked familiar! I have actually been on that ship and seen those harpoons, though I wasn't recognizing them at first, obviously...
