Not a bullet, but as strong as one.

Its a scratch and irrelevant to figuring out what it is.
I don't know the composition off hand, but I'll look them up later and post them after a few more failed guesses :)
Look at the image information for both the camera and lens to figure out the size. The lens was about 10 cm away.

OK, some specific questions:
1.) Is the near-vertical mark in the top section actually a split, or just a very straight scratch?
2.) If a split, is this part of the function of the part?
3.) Is the center layer copper?
4.) Is the powdery-looking surface below the coppery layer actually corroded, or is it something else?
5.) Assuming the part is round, what's the approximate outside diameter?

Is it round? That's a very reasonable question, because the lens could distort a straight object to look very round, but I'm guessing that your macro lens doesn't have that much barrel distortion.

Yes. It is round, no distortion in the image. It is a small section of a bigger piece.

On the inside of the circle, at the bottom of pic, is that a copper brush material?

I just looked at the other images, I think mine may be too out there...ok...hints.

Main metal: Alumninum
Hint: 1 of 4, 6, or 8

If there aren't enough guesses by 11, I'll post an expanded photo.

Is it the top of an engine cylinder with the head removed?

That's what I was thinking, but it seems sort of flimsy for a cylinder... Still, "4, 6, or 8"?

BINGO!

Here is the story. The engine overheated on my '03 Honda Civic. When I brought it down to the shop the guy told me it blew a head gasket, but he also said the block may be cracked. I went down and he showed me the "crack", which is the vertical line at the top and he said that could be the start of a crack.

I wasn't so sure, it looked too straight to be a crack. So, I went home, got my camera, flash, a reflector and my 60mm EF-S macro lens and got a nice close up of the "crack". I brought them home. It was clear from the camera thumbnails it wasn't a crack but the blown up images and different lighting angles at a 1:1 magnification proved it was a machined scratch and not a crack. I told him so and to replace the gasket instead of getting a replacement engine.

I had seen those photos earlier, so I had to stay out of that one. Good mystery shot though PGerst. It's good that story had a happy ending for you.

Here 'tis:

Getting the general idea of what it is may be quite easy. I will require a very specific answer for this one.

A indoor ceiling made in to a giant LG television.
Most likely LED's

I didn't think it would be long before someone noticed the LG logo. Yes, it is a large display. I will require the location of the display.

Nope, but you may be heading roughly in the right direction. You might have perhaps turned right in error ;-)

Vegas?

I was guessing it was a ceiling at a trade show or at an airport terminal... Apr 3rd 2008...

Can't find anything about such a beast though. Interesting support poles or sculptures or ... whatever those are..

ETA, could also very easily be a cruise ship.

Yeh, I'll accept that. Technically, it's the "Fremont Street Experience" and it runs two blocks or more along Fremont; Binions is within that stretch.

ETA: It's fun to see, I've been there on two or three different occasions. I used to attend a conference in Vegas annually, I'm not really into Vegas as a destination in itself.

ETA: I was hoping that one would be quick... I didn't want to be up half the night!

Ok. For those who know me, or quickly search my portfolio, the general category should be quickly obvious (as if it isn't anyway IMO) ..

I am looking to hear a specific description, two particular words. :) good luck, I'll provide a strong hint at #10 if no one has gotten it...
