No. I've featured the full-grown plant on challenge entries.

a fungus or mushroom

Although it is edible (in a very short span of its development - and popluar in Chinese and Japanese dishes), it is not a fungus or mushroom.

bamboo?
07/18/2012 12:45:47 AM · #3358

Yes, it's part of a bamboo shoot. We dug one up in a local bamboo stand when my cousin was here in May. It's quite a business doing it the correct way. Anyway, after the best edible bits were cut to be boiled, this section started drying out and squeezing the central rings up.

(Actually, I'm not very keen on eating bamboo but usually have it when it's included in school lunch.)

I was thinking the same, but figured a higher quality of metal would be used, usually stainless steel, not painted cast iron.

It seems to be a fairly high magnification and the "hemostats" sold as shop grade tools don't require the same kind of polished surface finish that would be found on surgical hemostats.

Surely it is. At 5x magnification. I see that my poor attempt at obfuscation-by-desaturation was less than successful, LOL!

It helps that I knew you have extreme close-up gear ready-to-hand. Lemme see what I can dig up now.
