I'm just wanting to show off and share (in case someone might feel inspired).
My wonderful personal Santa (the rest of you know him as RayEthier, decided that I needed a Kindle touch.
I went looking for a case, but in Australia they are very hard to find, very few choices and huge prices for the few that ARE around.
Luckily, I had one of my brighter moments and realized that it would fit into a CD case. So after a few modifications, my lovely Kindle has a new, custom-made home.

Wow - great solution! You're so ingenious, Karin. :) I bought my wife a Kindle Fire and I paid $30 for a case for it as well. They are under the tree. I didn't even open it up to play around with it. :) |

My wife bought me a Fire for Christmas. She told me that if, when I open it Christmas day, it's not in the box she's going to kill me. LOL
Cool idea using a CD case (or in actuality by the looks of it a DVD case). |

my boss got me a fire for xmas i've been using it for about a week now you get the premium amazon account for like a month so stream away before they take it away!!! after that it's 79bucks a year. the battery life is pretty sucky it's about 8 hours i can get it to go the entire day if i turn the back light way down and turn off the wifi. ooh amazon prime also has a library you can share so use that for your first few books you don't have to buy them!!
dosn't amazon prime sound like some kind of space station or sumthin....reading too much i guess

Thank you, Ken :-)
Nathan you are right, of course..... it is a DVD case.
Linda, that battery life sure sounds sucky :-( The "normal" Kindles hang in there for weeks!
Joe, I don't have much to offer, but would love to learn how to "share" Kindle books. I read something about a borrowing function, but that it only works in the US???? |

I'd be interested in sharing books...but I don't have any yet.
The Fire's battery life is drastically deteriorated if the wi-fi connection stays up. At least that's what I hear in all the reviews. |

if borrowing only works in the US that sucks more than my battery life! it's also pretty stupid. |

in fact do you guys know what happens when you fill a kindle up? she's close.

it could also have something to do with the Fire being in color too. |

Download 'em to a folder on your HD. Install free Kindle Reader app to 'puter so you can check the free books; some of them are so badly formatted as to be worthless. Toss the ones that are useless, keep the rest. Plug the Kindle into the 'puter with the USB cable and it sets itself up as a drive. Drag 'n drop the free books onto the Kindle and you're good to go.
The most time-consuming part of it is setting up a library structure ion the Kindle and sorting the books into it, one by one. But if you don't, it soon gets very difficult to manage.

Here's some more books for those that are into contemporary science fiction. They add and delete stuff all the time.
Baen free library
Robert...what do you recommend as a structure for the library? What works for you? I'd probably just go by author. |

If the Wi-Fi is suspected as being the cause of short battery life, it can easily be turned off when you don't want it on. Just go to the top of the screen and tap on the gear icon, select W-Fi from the drop down menu, and move the slider to the Off position. Then just turn it back on whenever you want web or cloud access. Even iPads have shortened battery life whenever they are constantly updating things in the background via Wi-Fi. That is a big energy drain.
This would probably work with the Fire anyway.

I have Sci-Fi, Classics, Non-Fiction, Satire, Twain, Cooking, Library, Poetry, Reference, Kindle Singles so far. I'd add a general Fiction category as soon as I put on a contemporary fiction book that's NOT sci-fi LOL.

LOL. I downloaded ~50 books for free last night and they're almost all Sci-Fi. I also downloaded some Edgar Rice Bourroughs and one reference book. So, what exactly is a "Kindle Single"???
I can't wait to get them onto the Kindle (once Christmas comes).
Linda, I'm all about what I can get for free. LOL.

One other thing I noticed, for those of you/us that just purchased the Kindle Fire....it does NOT come with a USB cable in the box. So, don't forget to go out and buy one: USB 2.0 (micro-B connector). |

I download a few free classics last year via Amazon, and quite enjoyed them.
I hadn't heard of "Baen" before.... shall have to look into it. Thing is, I would need someone to rub my nose in it (i.e. give me a good suggestion, summary, etc), but I'll try and remember it is there. Thanks, Nathan. |

Karin, I don't know what kind of reading you like, but I'm very partial to everything David Weber and Mercedes Lackey, and Eric Flint's "1632" is a great read (I'm not that big on the sequels though). |

Does anyone know if there's a way to print your library contents (title and author) from the Kindle for PC program? |
