Soooo different from the windows platform I am used to.
Anyone got any tips on learning this system.
A link that shows you around the system would be appreciated.
Don't know where anything is.
Have uploaded PS5 and Elements 10 trials to see how they go on the mac
Have uploaded Topaz also but I can't seem to get them to show in filters.
Had this happen in windows also but at least I know my way around that system and could do what Topaz said to get it to work.
Can't seem to understand the Mac system. |
I love my Mac, and it didn't take all that long to learn to use it. If there is something you can't figure out-some functions are hidden or counter intuitive-just google your question. If I can't find what I want easily under help I go straight to Google for any problem and the answer is invariably there. Good Luck! |

Back from holidays so time to explore this new iMac computer.
I was finding it hard to work out how to do simple things that I hadn't even thought about that I do on a Windows Pc.
Print Screen
Minimise everything to get back to the desktop etc.
Just thought I'd suggest the following to others that are making the switch.
I ended up downloading 'Kindle' from Amazon and purchase the Mac OS X Lion - The Missing Manual.
It's less than $10 to purchase it this way and you have it on your machine all the time for immediate reference.
Can add bookmarks etc to those areas you think you'll need to get to quickly.
I just thought others might find this a useful tip.
Slowly working my way through it and it's making me feel much happier about my purchase.
I think I will need to put a keyboard shortcuts table near my computer to help me remember them more easily for a while.
Any tips Lightroom users would give me for setting things up for a good workflow before I start importing images.
Would be appreciated.

Ha! I'd completely forgotten about this thread! Well, after all the hemming and hawing, the debating, the considering... I finally got me a new computer. Another PC. It's what I'm used to, things have continually improved from generation to generation, and my set-up was so fast (transferring everything from one computer to another), it freaked me out. Between plugging it in and sending my first email it took about an hour.
It's got an HP with a core i7, 10GB DDR3, 1.5TB SATA, and a GTX550 graphics card. I cannot believe how fast this is. I used to knit sweaters waiting for my PS to load...
Thanks to everyone for weighing in and really giving me the exact feedback I was looking for. I test drove several options and this ended up being the one. |

The best thing you can do if you're buying a Mac from an Apple Store is spend £79 and buy a year's worth of unlimited One to One training. From 'Introduction to OX X' through to making music in Logic, and anything in between, a personal trainer will show you. |

you can get microsoft office for macs aswell. so a mac can run microsoft word aswell.
personally i think pc are better because they are cheaper than macs.
also you can upgrade pc hardware if needed.
PCs can also play all games.
a mac is fine though if you just want internet browsing and word processing. and they have plenty of apps. also is very convenient to have all the hardware and screen in one unit. and they do look nice.

The Outlook client for Mac (Entourage) sucks tho. It doesn't provide all the features that Outlook does when using an Exchange server, and it's kinda flaky with calendar stuff (meetings). |

Love the discussions - My wife bought Apple stock at just under $13 many years ago when they were going broke and the consensus was they were on their death bed. It's now $600 plus. My Windows stock, which I bought at the same time, has barely moved. Apple only got there because of high quality, good company leadership and engineering, and consumer trust. I know a lot of users who have gone from PC (windows) to Mac but none who have gone from Mac to PC, though there are some out there. My recommendation is "Buy a Mac." |
