Heavy Metal bands are not only a bunch of aggressive people how it can be seen in some songs. Surely there are many, but there are several bands that know very well how to write lyrics and play beautiful and interesting music. A few examples:
Queensryche - Someone Else
Dream Theater - Another Day
Alter Bridge - Watch over you
I could post much more examples. :) |

I have not voted yet on this challenge, but after reading some of the comments I'm really getting a bit confused. According to the challenge we where supposed to "Create your entry taking inspiration from a heavy metal song". The fact it that the "inspiration" is totally subjective. Two persons may listen to the same song and create on their minds totally different images related to the lyrics (which is great of course...). So, when voting listening to the lyrics, what will happen if the idea on my mind doesn't make any coincidence with the shot I'm looking at?. Should I vote low just because my imagination about the lyrics doesn't fit the shot I'm looking at, even it the shot is good?. I don't think so!... |

Do you really want opinions from the masses on how to vote? |

I'm finding it hard to vote in expert challenges in which I tend to vote lower than other challenges in general and I always do consider the theme and can vote considerably lower if it's completely unrelated. This one in particular but I mean it balances itself out in the end right? Those that put the effort into the challenge are rewarded with a higher score, seems that's pretty appropriate.
Doesn't need to be all about stuff that is vile since cute and witty can work. I know most of the songs but still don't have to take it in a completely literal sense since the challenge was heavy metal song titles and not heavy metal song lyrics. |

I am voting really unfairely, I am afraid :)
Being really fond of some heavy metal things and not knowing many others, I tend on anayzing and perhaps criticizing pretty well made images about songs I particularly feel for, while scoring just on image artistic merit those referring to songs I never heard.
Thing is, while HM has a fame for pretty violent music and perhaps not too defined or realistic concepts, quite a few bands in the genre are much deeper than most pop and rock music, but it takes time and listening to give your own meaning to the lyrics.
And the title often doesn't say more than the title to a photo, if you just glance at the image itself.
So, I have been scoring only 5 or upwards, and tried not to underrate an image just because I don't like the song.
Still, I suspect HM fans will vote quite differently from people who never heard the songs before.
(so sorry nobody posted a "wherever I may roam" one, or a "mistress for xmas" one, I would have loved that :D )

I listen to classical music. I've never heard of most of the songs or bands in this challenge. So I recruited a friend of mine who knows the music. We went through the entries together. She was able to tell me whether the entry fit with the band and often whether it fit the song. We made a joint decision on the vote. Our joint votes averaged higher than the votes that I usually give--or would have given without her input.
I feel that we have rewarded those who took this challenge seriously and who knew enough about the bands and song to create images to match.
