Hello all,
I've been trying to look for an insurance company to insure my gear, mainly from theft or accidental damage. Its about £3000 worth, and i'm not a professional, although I do take some wedding/coporate jobs in the year.

I've read lots of reviews b y people who have had "good" experiences, but very few who have actually made a claim.

Just wondering if there is anyone who has made a successfull claim without hassel and would reccomend their Insurer.

(I am uk based)

Kind regards !

Rehan, do you have home contents insurance? Mine covers accidental damage anywhere in the world.

I've never made a claim but house insurance could be a good start, I have up to £1k per item accidental damage on my house insurance.

Worth noting you should really consider having liability insurance if you are taking on paid work to cover you if you were to injure someone for example

I also have insurance through my home policy. I called my agent with a list of gear, over $10,000 worth new, and they created a rider to the policy that costs less than $100 per year with a $1000 deductible.

Here in the US I have a policy that costs $50. No deductable, of course I only have around $2000 worth. I wouldnt rely on homeowners. You don't want to have to pay higher home rates if you make a claim against that, trust me.

One problem with using your homeowner's policy is that they may not cover "commercial" equipment. Meaning that if you use your camera to make money, they can legitimately refuse a claim. If you ARE shooting for profit, you need to think about liability along with equipment insurance. If you did something like drop your camera on the best man's head at a wedding, you'd be personally liable for that and since you were working your normal liability insurance that's through your homeowner's insurance will not cover you, leaving your assets (cameras, home, car, savings, etc.) vulnerable.

thanks for the really helpful advice, a few points for me to go away and thinking about. Will need to get out our Home insurance and see what we are covered for.
