Yes, this has been recommended many times.
Everyone should download the linked PDF, print it out, and keep a couple of copies in their camera bag.
He also has a full book on the subject of photography and the law -- a worthwhile business investment for anyone trying to go pro ... and yes, he is a lawyer ... ;-) |

I've had that one for years, but haven't managed to find a good Australian equivalent yet.

Bottom left of the above link there is a link to NSW street photography legal issues, which contains a lot of information pertinent to other states. I've just been reading it and it's interesting.

It is important to remember that a piece of paper is not always impressive to a small-minded, foaming-at-the-mouth, self-imposed dictator who thinks you're trespassing in his area. Discretion is the better part of valor.
Technically correct, and in traction, is not necessarily a good place to be.
