Hey all
I have a Tian-Ya circular polarizing filter that has managed to come apart on me in 3 pieces - the glass, the mounting ring (plastic) and another ring that hold the glass in place (metal).
Any suggestions as to what adhesive would work best? I think I have some Weld-bond kicking around, but don't want to start gunking things up just yet if there's something better out there. |

Any of the clear two part epoxy glues should do that job nicely. Just mix a little on a piece of stiff paper or plastic, and apply it with a toothpick as you reassemble the item.
Another good option would be clear silicone glass sealer, available in small squeeze tubes at hardware stores. It's not as strong, but would allow some freedom of movement in the parts for thermal and mechanical stresses. It's not brittle when it cures.
Be sure to clean the parts with dish soap or alcohol to get all the oily residue off before assembly. After assembly, when the glue has set, a small drop of w/d 40, applied with a toothpick, in the gap where the outer ring turns, will make it smooth turning again.

Place a clean white towel on a study surface.
Place all the pieces of the filter together on top of the towel.
Place another clean white towel on top of this.
Smack the towel with a large mallet.
Buy a new name brand filter. |

Teehee! So does that mean you're going to buy me a new filter for Xmas? How sweet! It's a 77mm btw :-)
Meantime, think I'll try MM's solution so I have a filter to use. |
