I don't know if this has been spoken of before but I feel that the window color of entries during voting, that is the border surrounding the pictures, needs to be a neutral grey, rather than the white it is now (at least on my monitor). A white border will cause the image to appear darker, as I think was the case with my purple entry, "Dessicated Blush," which the purple looked so much brighter on my monitor before uploading to DPC. Especially with portrait style format images, there is more white showing and probably has an effect of constricting the pupils more and causing less light to reach the retina, making images appear darker. I have also read in books that a white border will make for darker looking images and a black border will make images appear brighter. So, in all fairness to the intended look of the image by the photographer, I think DPC should adopt a neutral grey window for challenge voting.

The current color is a neutral 18% grey. If it appears white to you, your monitor may need to be adjusted.

Does this site appear white on your monitor? I think you need to fiddle with your monitor settings.

It does appear white and I just did an Adobe Gamma calibration yesterday. This could explain why many of my shots which I believed to be more worthy than the low scores they were getting have not been received well. I'll have to calibrate using some of the more sophisticated calibration methods, I guess.

Is the background on this post a different color than the one immediately above it?

Also, does the bar below each image on the voting pages run in equal-sized squares from white to black on your monitor?
