I was just wondering if anybody could give me any tips on shooting a wedding in a park that has lots of trees casting shadows. The wedding will probably be around 4:00 or 4:30pm. I just recently got a Canon D60.

I hav read some stuff about metering off the white dress and adding 1 stop ev. What else?

Use bright shadows for the portraits. Out door weddings are the easiest! Fill flash. I just try to meter the best I can for a general, overall good exposure. posing is the key! Ceremony shots you will just have to practice with and bracket! I hope that half of the party isnt in the shade and half in the sun?? That would suck!

I agree with parrothead. Use fill flash and hope that it isn't a bright sunny day! I have done a lot of weddings in my time and most if not all of my park weddings were on overcast days (just luck I guess). However, most of my other weddings had their "formal" after wedding photos done in the park. If you are able to take an assistant, using a silver reflector also helps get rid of unwanted shadows without the need to use to much flash.

Shadows can be your friend on a sunny day. use your fill flash. I don't know how the D60 handles White Balance so you may want to set your white point to around 5500. This is about the temp. of the flash. If you get a chance, try to go to one of the rehearsals so you can see how the lighting may be and don't be afraid to voice your concerns if you have any. Remember these are the photos they will save forever and if you see a problem let them know and maybe they can adjust for it. As far as the group shots you pretty much have control where the best place will be to shoot them but sometimes you don't have that control during the Wedding itself and may find it hard to get the right shot for things like the first kiss, ring placement ect. If you don't think you got a good capture, after the wedding have them re do them for you so you can get a better shot. After all, they are newly weds so they should have no problem doing the first kiss over again (-:
