Thanks for the votes and the two nice comments I received on my Remembrance entry. It performed a little worse than expected for me. I got nice comments but none that told me what you didn't appreciate about it. Please take the time and let me know why you voted a 5 or lower on this image...

I added the unedited original to my profile.

I think photographs of statuary, or installation art in general, are kind of a tough sell. At a minimum, the photograph should offer something new by way of a novel point of view, lighting, or some such -- something that a visitor to the site wouldn't readily see. A better bet is to inculde the piece as part of a greater composition by way of arrangement or clever juxtaposition. Street photographers love to do this.
Your shot is an okay picture of a statue -- you got close so we some detail that the casual visitor might miss. But any feeling of awe really belongs to the statue's creator.

Pretty much what the others have said, it is a statue and it wasn't photographed in a way to add anything.
I shot this statue for the military challenge earlier this year. It did fairly well and with better editing or some cool clouds I may have added .2 more to the score. But I got into the fountain it was in and shot it in a way that most people have probably not seen. But statues are a hard thing to shoot well, you want to shoot in a way to add your artistic touch to another artist work and not just document their work. Hope this helps. |
