AuthorThread

I'm in the early stages of discussing a technical book idea with a publisher. I've had a chapter published by them before, and now the commissioning editor approached me and asked would I be interested in authoring a full book, about 40,000 words (expanding on the subject of my original paper)

So does anyone have any experience of dealing with publishers? - How does the process work, what contracts do you need to sign, should I get a solicitor, when does the money start rolling in? that kind of thing. :)

A friend of mine wrote a book. I will ask him if he minds you contacting him with some questions.

That'd be great, thanks! - I won't bombard him, I just want to make sure I'm taking the right approach at the outset.

Thanks! - I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed the few months it took me to do the last one, in a masochistic kind of way. And it's great seeing your name in print.

But it'd also be nice to make some small amount of money out of it... :)
