Yeah, stop reading the book and go take some pictures :-)
* Enable those couple of focus types that are off by default... I love the spot AF.
* Play around with the C1-C3 as it's handy to have a setup you can flip back to.
* Enable the option that lets you have a different focus point in landscape or portrait mode.
* Look at the grid display options - I have a grid turned on that shows close to 8x10 crop marks.
* Unlock the highest ISO.... expansion or high or whatever 12,800 is. |

I have a 7D and I'm getting the point now where I'm thinking full frame is the only real way to go with digital. Crop sensors are getting on my nerves. |

Yeah I sort of agree... I still shoot 35mm film a little and I miss the FF on dSLR's..... It's just hard to explain if you have always used a crop.
The 7D though is FAR better then the older crops on the tunnel affect - although it's still there - and I looked hard at a used 5D before moving to the 7D but feature wise it was a non starter. I love the focus system on it... much more like a 1-series then any of the past crops (or even any of the 5-series FF's). The 5D2 was just out of my budget anyway, although there have been some decent prices wandering around recently..... |

Congrats on the new gear! The 7D is a fantastic camera. With regard to APS-C vs. 25mm sensor sizes, well, horses for courses. Just like 35mm vs. medium format, the question is whether the benefits of a larger sensor are something you personally would benefit from to the point where it would offset the substantially increased cost. For some folks, there is really no need at all to move up in sensor size, so the added cost is not justified.

Congrats on your new 7D. I couldn't be happier with mine. I also agree with the pointers Rob gave you. Especially enabling the focus options that are off by default. They will make all the difference in the world on top of an already excellent focus system. Enjoy!
