I've tried various organizations for my galleries on my site. I am still not sure I'm happy.
The problem I have is over-categorizing makes it cumbersome--I would think people don't want to do all the navigation. Plus, I keep my own folders by date and one folder with all prints for sale, and at least for now, one per titled print (working files for editing).
Anyway, for those with sites trying to sell prints, how do you organize your public galleries for prints (obviously, for client work, those are divided by client, so I'm not including those).
Right now, those galleries on my site (//nrshapiro.com/portfolio), I just have:
featured prints - a large subset of my total collection of various prints that can be ordered online. May include prints in other categories and prints not shown elsewhere.
color and forms - I thought this was a good title to lump in abstracts, flowers, things with mainly color impact. For sale, and some may be in featured prints
canvas prints - a special category for self-fulfilled canvas (so I can order from canvasondemandpro rather than zenfolio's printer)
people - samples of my portraits and model work, not for sale
places and architecture - cities, buildings, and architecture samples (prints available, may also be in featured prints)
What do you think? What do you use for portfolio categories (note, again, this doesn't include client work, which for me includes my portrait/model work, theatre, or local events...those have their own space, and I don't consider them part of my main portfolio a visitor would likely go to.)
Anyway, love to hear your thoughts and your own organization scheme.
