WHY it was requested in the first place, I won't know. But, they were right. The date in my camera was off by about a month. Yikes! I had no idea! Guess I'm glad it was caught before I went on submitting too many photos in the challenges. Pretty disappointed as this is my first entry since March of 2007. But, thems the rules and I should have known better!

6.73 or so was the last score I saw today. Super bummer.

(And for the record, I DEFINITELY took this photo after the challenge was announced. If only there were exceptions, I could prove it with the receipt of purchase for my props, and text messages to my model about how late he was going to be, etc.)

*sigh*

Does anyone have any cheese for my whine?

Ouch. That's not fun to see a good score go down the toilet.

I wonder if there is a way for someone to check the dates of the photos taken during voting?

Hmm..

would it hold that in the exif data?

You should use the camera in your cell phone. The time & date are sent via the cell network, no worries. Who needs those big, fancy 5Ds anyway? ;-)

Also, because I was DQed 23 challenges (AND SIX YEARS) ago, I'm suspended for a week. Extra super bummer. I had the most lovely model lined up for one of the challenges.

(Ironic side note, my last (and only, til now) DQ was axed because of the way I imported images into photoshop at the time. It erased the EXIF data in the image so they couldn't prove when I took it. I really have to mind my dates better!)

that sucks.

Keep the model, do the shoot, free study will be waiting for you. Sorry about the DQ.

I didn't realize you were such a serious criminal! There should be some sort of DPC rehab alternative, they way California gives the choice between paying a speeding ticket, or going to a traffic class.

You probably need a 12 step program. You've already completed the first step by admitting you're an wrong-date-aholic. I'd offer to sponsor you, but I've managed to avoid the dark side.

I'm really sorry for you. But I think that the 'no exceptions' rule is right. It happened something similar to me. I made a mistake with the date and even if I told the SC that, they DQed me. I didn't complain, I made a mistake. I had the proof that my submission was ok but... no exceptions :)

I'm really sorry you have been suspended like this.

Dang, that really sucks. I know I've discovered a camera time/date problem in the past, luckily it never affected an entry. A good reminder to all to regularly verify the accuracy of our camera clocks!

Any one can do it. If the exif information is in the image, you can view it. On some images, however, the exif information is stripped by the image processing software (e.g. by using save for web), on some it is not, depending on the software.

I can recommend exifviewer, an add-on for firefox.

Sorry about the DQ. It's a typical DQ mistake. It's been recommended that the challenge entry form check the exif data when uploading (actually it does check it for camera settings, I think) and WARN you if your exif date is not consistent with the challenge dates. Wouldn't catch everything, but it would have caught yours and quite a few others.

I demand a full, intensive, investigation into Slippy. It's always the boy scout types you least expect... ;-)

Thanks for the nice words everyone! I also really appreciate the encouraging comments on the photo I received. This challenge was really fun and I can't wait to see who wins!

That's a really good idea. It would have, at the very least, kept me from getting suspended for the week! I'm more disappointed in that than anything else probably.

The problem is that nobody wants to investigate slippy. They just don't want to go there.

Not true. I've been conducting a five year investigation and I think people will be shocked by my findings. The report will be published soon, but suffice it to say that all of the turmoil around the world can be attributed to the actions of just one man.

Dangit Posthumous! You have this vendetta against me because of something that happened over 25 years ago. I wish you'd give it a rest. To let everybody here at DPC in on Don's dark secret... back in the day his nickname was Stiffler. His mom let us have a party at his house. His mom was hot, all the guys had a thing for her. I bumped into her that night. Alone. Here's a video of how it started. The rest is history.

There ought to be a statute of limitations on DQ punishments.

I know, that's pretty crazy, eh! Heck of a welcome back. Her camera was probably in the closet for a while. Occupy DPC! >:-(

This is exactly why in my line of work we make our subjects hold newspapers, so there is no question about the earliest date the photo could have been taken.

Seconded on the advice. Bummer about the DQ - with that score it was doing very well and well received by DPC voters. I suspect you will be back from the time out period with some more top notch work, so chin up and welcome back.
