Trust me, it is far better to shoot what you love and enter the image that makes you happy, and to hell with the voters and scores. Or you can attempt to cater to the numerous and very fickle tastes here, and try to please everyone else - except yourself.
That's why I'm so proud of my one and only ribbon. I wasn't thinking of doing anything more that day than just stretching the legs of both the camera and lens, which were both new. I saw a shot, got it, liked it, entered it and was completely gobsmacked when I won. Essentially I ribboned on my terms, and no one else's, and that makes that victory so much the sweeter.
Even here in the Foliage challenge, sure, I didn't ribbon. But I DID finish at 7.000, got an Honourable Mention and now have a new PB. A ribbon would have been the icing on the cake, but still 3/4 goals accomplished at one fell swoop, again with an image I liked, just makes it all the better to me. |
