This logic eliminates....everything! If it is young and small, it is not miniature because it will not be miniature later. Also if it is always that size it is not miniature. So miniature horses and model trains, no matter how tiny are not miniature. Heck they are as big as they are and therefore not at all small. When did we pass through to the other side of the looking glass?
I'm gonna have to go with my notion of the word and the one I find in the dictionary. It means small. If you show it in a context that show off how small it is, you have met the challenge.

Using the everyday objects as a benchmark I wouldn't worry too much about it :)
