| I just read about another new bit of photographic technology - the digimo. It sounds like a really interesting concept, though they're not sure it will ever be available for purchase. This is certainly a toy I would like to play with if the price was right. |

I don't get it... Can't I buy a few GoPro Hero cameras and combine the images that way. Is it the same thing or I am probably missing something.
I guess I just don't see the "Invention" aspect of it. |

I don't know too much about the GoPro, but can they be controlled remotely? It sounds like one can control multiple digimo cameras in different positions with one click of the remote.

I just got a GoPro, and no, you can't control them remotely. They're mostly geared toward video (the higher end version does 1080p, the lower end one does 720), but they're also pretty decent still cameras.
The cameras are very wide, 5mm I believe, and there's no digital screen to view (you can buy a video accessory for the higher end version that allows you to see what the camera sees). You can either click the shutter for a single capture, or set it to do timed sequences (like 2s, 5s, 10s, etc.). The case is waterproof, so I'm excited about the next chance to take a video of myself diving into a pool with it, etc.
I've been impressed with the quality so far, and I've gotten a few different mounts for it (the tripod mount, handlebar, and suction cup... and it came with a helmet mount).
I went skydiving a few weeks ago, but we weren't allowed to use them (we were tethered to instructors, and that was the rule)... would have made for some awesome footage, though!

Thanks, alanfreed. It sounds like another nice thing to have, though I don't know how compatible it is with my lifestyle. It doesn't sound like it would do the kind of thing they're suggesting with the Digimo though. |

I'm not entirely sure what the Digimo is meant to accomplish from the small amount of literature on that page... I assume it's meant to take several camera angles simultaneously, or create panoramas...?
The GoPro is mainly used for sticking a camera in places you wouldn't otherwise think to put a camera. People stick them onto surfboards... helmets... bikes... hang gliders, and on and on. You can get some really cool points of view with them.
I've seen them used quite a bit on TV, too. If you watch The Amazing Race, you'll see them being used to capture views of contestants as they're doing various challenges. I've seen them in heavy use on "Around the World in 80 Ways" on the History Channel, too. |

I also assumed that it was for several angles simultaneously. I suppose panoramas would work too.

The GoPro looks really interesting but I don't do anything of a sporting nature, so it would probably be wasted on me. I do watch The Amazing Race, but haven't noticed them there. Next time it is on in South Africa I'll have to look out for them. |
