Well it's been six years since I joined this wild site, and took a serious look at what I was doing with a camera. Over the years I've made some friends, some enemies, and some great contacts. However my time here has come to a close, in the past year I've barely participated in the site, and when I have it's truly been half hearted. My membership expires in 6 days, my portfolio will go away and I'll likely just cancel my account. I just don't find the draw to be here much anymore. Life is too busy these days.
My photography skills have grown tremendously because of this site, and I'm thankful to have found it, but it's time to move on and let someone else take my place. I just want to thank all of you that have helped me over the years, and also those of you who haven't killed me for being a di&k at times. If you are looking for my gear when I "upgrade" head over to Fredmiranda buy and sell that is where I'll list it, and if you want to shoot an email my direction because you miss me being a smart ass to you, it will remain the same as always.
/me tips hat and rides off into the sunset.

Never talked to you before, but I will say it's a shame to see you go. You have some truly amazing photos. Take care out there in the crazy world!

Hate to see you go! I have always admired your photography!
I would suggest to at least not close your account, you may still change your mind and want to come back at some point...even if its a few years in the future.
Plus, then we can still admire challenge pictures |

Awww, Matt, you didn't do it right! You're supposed to rant and complain about things, then threaten to leave and have us beg you to stay.
Enjoy your ride off into the sunset. You still keeping your Flickr account?

Matt, it feels like an institution of the site is leaving. You've been here a long time and have contributed much to us all and I thank you for that. I'm sure you will do well in your photographic life and we would enjoy you stopping by from time to time. You will be missed! Good luck!

Sorry Spiff just not my style. I'll keep my Flickr account, I use it to post to FM.com and I'll keep checking out your stuff on there as well. :D
Bergie, you mean more like I belong in an institution? If you tried to keep up with my three jobs you would certainly see that to be the case most weeks. :D

I'll miss seeing your kid as he grows up. :-( But I can see where this place doesn't have a lot left for you. Don't erase the porfolio, though - you never know if you might want to come back. Keep up the great work you've been doing! |

You'll be missed Matt. Sorry to see you go, but I get it.
Have you found another hang out spot that inspires you?

It's been interesting, and inspiring to be able to share some time and images with you and your family. Wishing you and your family safety, happiness, and strength as you forge your way ahead into the future.

I'll miss you in the side challenges. :-(
Best wishes in your future endeavors! Like others have said, don't close your account completely so you can stop in and say hello. |

I'd be sorry to see you go, Matt. Why not just keep a registered account and pop in every now and then to share? As others have suggested...

Thanks Everyone,
Shutterpug I hang out over at FredMiranda in the people and Sports forums. More along the lines of the two Genre I shoot. I also hang out in a couple of forums for Photojournalists on pay sites. It's just nice to hang out with peers who understand where you are and also to get feedback from folks who are better then you at that specific genre. There are tons of people here better then me, but don't shoot what I do so specific feedback helps more.
Bear I haven't fully decided whether to close the account, but realistically if I'm not here there is no need to leave my space here. Most of the things I used to try to help people was in my portfolio that will go away when my paid account does so I just figured close it out and move on. Just seemed like the best thing to do.

Think of it as maintaining an honorary membership in an organization after you retire, so you can maintain ties to a community that has served you well. Be "emeritus", not "absent". One of the things that slightly grieves me about DPC is how many people just disappear when they "move on", when actually it would be of great interest to many in the community to keep up with their lives and activities.
A good positive example to emulate would be Skip, who has moved on in much the same way you have, but who occasionally pops in with very interesting updates and very valuable advice. I'd love to see you do the same, Matt.

I totally agree with Robt. on this. Matt you will be so missed. It sure would be nice just to see you pop in once in while to give us an update on how you're doing.

Well maybe you've learned everything you can from DPC, but has DPC learned everything it can from you?
Still, I totally understand when life evolves in a different direction and some things need to be cut out. Just don't erase anything, please. You'd cut off my most reliable idea source for challenge entries :-)
I'll check you out over at FM |
