I am a semi-retired professional and have over the last year have become interested in photography. I have decided to "take it to the next level". I have so many areas where I need improvement that it is hard to decide where to start. I have read several blogs, talked to photographers and came to the conclusion that the first step in my journey is to take more photos. What I use for the photos really doesn̢۪t matter. The photos can be from the iPhone, a point and shoot or the DSLR. The next step is to post the photos, describe what I was trying to do and comment upon what I like and don't like about the photo. Hopefully I will get some comments.
Overcast today in Florida and only my IPhone with me. (So I'll take some photos this afternoon and see what happens)

Welcome to DPC Leon. I am also in Florida (Miami) and I am ready to see the sun again. These overcast skies and rainy weather have gotten old fast but its forecast to last through Wednesday...ugh!
I look forward to seeing some of your images once you get them uploaded. Where in Florida are you located?

Welcome. I suggest you enter some challenges. I have learned more in the 9 months I have been entering challenges than all the years before that. Have fun. |

I live on Miami Beach, but i work in part-time in Tampa so I have lots of free time in the evenings, but my photo equip. is in Miami UGH. i tried lugging it arround for a few weeks, but that got old. Now i just plan on using my iPhone or my point and shoot in Tampa and save the DSLR for Miami.
i am planning on entering the challanges.

Welcome, Leon! Make sure you visit Ice Box Cafe in South Beach. It's my brother's restaurant. If you mention you know me, he may give you a free dessert. Or kick you out, LOL! |

First off welcome to the world of DPC... :D
I live in Florida as well. Glad to see the Florida group is getting larger. There are about 10 or so active members that live in Florida. By active I mean active on the forums.
Can't wait to see some of your shots! :) |

Make yourself carry around your DSLR until it becomes second nature. Once you're used to having it with you all the time, you'll find ample opportunities just seem to happen. Shoot lots, and as you look at your shots, remember what struck you enough about the scene to make you shoot it in the first place. Pick out what you like about the shots, and work on developing that in future shots. Try and avoid the natural inclination to pick apart what you don't like. It's too easy to become discouraged with your abilities during the learning curve if you're your own worst critic. Familiarizing yourself with your camera, and how it captures scenes, light, and color will make photography a joy once you become comfortable with it.
The true joy of photography happened for me once I was able to use my camera because I knew what it would capture when I shot with it.
Shoot, and enjoy...

Be aware that if you have a meet-up with Cory, and he offers up some 'services', he's going to charge you. There's a reason he drives a pimped-out Cadillac and wears a furry fedora.

thanks for advise.
met wiht friend showed me his set up. i was very impressed with his printer ( large format epson 4900) hope he let's me use it . he showed set up, computer (apple), hard crives, file oganization, backup process, then he did a quick clean up on couple of photos and printed off. what i learned. ink on cheaper (by quantity) for the big printer, set my camera to AdobeRPG (not sRPB) - more colors available . have a process to follow for processing.
i will post the two photos we worked on on my profile.
