its to fake and smooth and bright wants half teh treatment i reckon but i dont pp, she doesn't look a happy bunny at having her photo taken lol

+1

this is my take on it almost to a T. While you say the other one is unflattering, I have to say the edit is even worse.

If the clients are happy that is good, but if you want to get better I'd listen to photogs, we are always our own best critics.

I don't even fully understand that, grammatically speaking, but I think I get the point. So you and MattO are saying this is WORSE that the original ???

I know it looks a little cartoony, I screwed up on the blurring (probably went too far because she looked so sickly), so I'll agree and say I am not great at PP in PS, but I think you guys are a little skewed. Not to mention the shots you are talking about are the OUTTAKES!!

Anyway, everyone is happy with the "PROOFS" so I'm happy. What would someone with a $5000 camera charge them? Probably more than a "just starting out" band is will to pay, instead they used a "just starting out" photographer and stayed within their means.

Great stuff dude. Is that the owner of capobianco's playing drums? Great feel of the room in the shots.
Heres one I took of a band at toads.

Hey! Congrats on that first paying gig! Live and learn and try to learn from others' mistakes & experience - you don't have time to make all the mistakes yourself!

Thanks!
I think everyone in the band works at some hospital, (even the girlfriends).

Congrats on your first gig. I found that upping the ISO and shooting with available light (my D700 is brilliant at this) produces some pretty interesting stuff. Shoot enough images and you'll get great sharp moments, and some interesting motion blur. Grungy club acts don't tend to like really pp'd stuff. Save the "glamor" for the studio session, like this.

sorry leo was typing to fast you know how it is,

my point was no its not better and shes not got a good look or maybe just unlucky shot but my point was it was

too smooth and too bright and appeared fake, have you ever seen anyone look like that in the flesh? im not criticising just trying to clarify what i meant, im with you i dont PP at all really but i had a stab at it to get what i mean over easier, and im a newbie to pp really (had a 5 min play with a cuppa in aperture)

but this is what i meant, actually look a lot more smooth than they do in aperture, optimised for flickr...

or in b/w

Dude, You are comparing Apples to Oranges, IT WAS AN OUTTAKE!! I was just playing around with PS. The ones with the "PROOF" on them are the ones I sold. I appreciate your help, but you are being pretty adamant about how much a picture that didn't even matter, sucked... Critique the "Proofs" if anything, or just drop the whole thing.

That what I replied to, then you said you didn't understand what I meant so was attempting to clarify.... That was all

Well then, lets get some shots up of the A monkeys, (Flourescent Adolescent is in fact the best song ever written, and the video "Leave Before the Lights Come On" with Paddy Considine is the best music video ever.)

LOL, that's just pure awesomeness. did they sign those?

what was it like with nick cave and black francis? i was so into those groups back in the day...esp the pixies.

there not from the pixies or nick cave hehe, there from a local band who i work for who i met my sons mum at their gig and went out with for about 4 years so big connection,

pixies gig was ace, was sat just at side of stage drinking a cup of tea for half of it then in crowd for the rest i'll see if i can dig sme cell phone pics out, the pixies manager manages the band from teh guitars and my son etc his two bands lol. pixies was a strange one, dry backstage no booze at all, they all had seperate dressing rooms etc had a good chat with the drummer out side he was borrowning my rolling tobacco and joey watched us from side of stage and came into our dressing room asking about some guitar riffs and saying he enjoyed it. then they played a cracking sett, 2 encores then met frank (not his real name ;)) and kim at the after show. i dont do nick cave, my mate does.

you'll need facebook for this one //www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150206829370045

hehe...yeah, i figured the guitars weren't from the pixies, i thought it might been from artic monkeys.

nice clip of where is my mind. i wish i had gotten a chance to see them live but not many bands came through hawaii back then, esp the underground ones.

oh and mike, sorry for semi-hijacking your thread.
