Hello.
As some of you know, I'd be expecting this lens. I got it today and it's HUGE and heavy! I wasn't expecting it to be that big. I have a 75-300mm lens that's lighter and thinner. Compared to my recently acquired Canon 50mm 1.8 Mark II, it is a monster. Is lens weight usually a problem for you guys, or am I just being picky?

When you combine relatively fast aperture with a wide zoom range, you have both more elements and larger elements; weight and size are bound to go up. Evidence the massive 70-200 2.8L. I think you'll get used to the size/weight. I now hand-hold the 70-200 for long periods, and I don't even think about the size anymore, until someone comments on it, which someone inevitably does, LOL.

how much is this lens compared to the slower Canon's version 28-135 IS?

You will get used to it after a while. Like kirbic said, the 70-200mm is massive you'll need to support it from the bottom with your left hand.
Another big lens is the canon 28-70mm F2.8L.
I find it useful to use a monopod when using these lenses.

I have the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8-4 and it's big, but I really like the feel of it. After having my camera and lenses for a year now, they all feel the same.

I paid $299 for this lense, the Canon 28-235mm 3.5-5.6 IS is about $400. The Sigma has gotten better reviews. I just can't wait to go out and try it, and the new Canon 50mm 1.8 too.
