This is one shot I have processed from 122 I took out through the window adjacent to the Butterfly/Hummingbird Garden we are creating.
I had top portion of the window open (Double Hung). I could not get any closer to the feeder or Hummingbird with the Tokina 80-400mm lens. It is using natural light and a slightly high ISO setting.
The Hummingbirds did not seem to mind it at all. Actually they sat on the perch a few times and watched me. It seems so neat to listen to the very soft peeping noises they make :)
The only thing I did to this shot was a level adjustment and very small amount of USM.
Comments and etc are welcome as always :)
I have been trying to shoot what I could for now because I will have to send my EOS 10D in for service and there is not telling when it will come back :(
One thing I am having trouble with is the notorious "Error 99" with all of my NEW lenses, Canon, Sigma and Tokina.

great shot ... although I'm a bit saddened by the fact that you couldn't get any closer with a 400mm lens. I'm patiently waiting for my 70-200mm lens to get her and I'd love to shoot these little dudes, but maybe 200mm won't be enough.

The only reason I say I could not get closer was due to the minimum focusing distance for the lens. I could have backed into the room further and tried for a tighter shot but these little guys are not that easy to follow in a fully zoomed 400mm lens :)

WOW! Great shot Calvus. Well captured. We don't have humming birds around here so I am very jealous right now. I am thinking about creating a butterfly garden in spring (September). I would love to see some shots of the layout of your garden.

Amazing hummer photo -- his colors just jump out from the red and he is crystal clear in focus. Love this -- thank you!

Great photo!
(My hummingbirds don't make soft peeping noises. They make loud chattering noises, especially when one of the feeders is empty. They can be quite demanding!) |
