Ok...so I get up early to go take some seascape(Lakescape) photos. Get some crisp shots including some diving fishing pelicans. Since I was testing my focus skills in manual, I actually looked at each shot in cam before shooting another. Shot about 25. Got back to the car and reviewed in cam.

Got home, took CF card out of D700, put in card reader, opened bridge...nothing from today...all yesterday's shots still there.

Put back in cam...only yesterdays shots there. I know it wasn't a wedding but WHERE ARE MY PHOTOS !!!!

ARRRGGGHHHHH !!!!

When it happened to me on my point and shoot, never happened yet on a DSLR, it was because I had not powered down the camera before removing the card.

I made the mistake of formatting, yes formatting a card after it was full. I got a card error after my CF card was full so I switched to my SD card, or so I thought and I accidentally formatted the CF card. They were images of Blue whales diving with their tails showing. I was shocked. I found this, Recuva and it recovered every single file. I had even taken some pics on the formatted card. Again, I was shocked that this software recovered all my images. Try it out, it may find something , ya never know. ;)

The cam was powered down for sure....oh well. I am now running a trial of a recovery program I loaded about two weeks ago to help a member out. I'm now trying it on my card ! If it works...and it looks like it will....I'll purchase so I can recover. I'll then have the recovery software ready for "next time".

The one in my link is free. I also ran it through Microsoft security essentials and it came out clean.

Is it possible the pics are stored in another dir. on the card?

I did think of that at first but it only took a sec to see that there was no other directory.

I have recovered all the photos. I'm still not sure why it deleted them. I'll have to keep my eye on this issue !

I'll post a shot or two later.

Near 100% crops. Pelicans have been ran through smart sharpen. Fisherman and Shrimp head have only curves applied.
