I need to crop large quantities of images in Lightroom 3 so that they will export into Photoshop as a 8 in x 12 in. What is my best solution to this?
Do I just crop in Lightroom and then set an action to resize as a 8in x 12 in in photoshop?
Do I set a custom crop size in Lightroom and then send off to photoshop (I was doing this I thought but when I looked at the image size in Photoshop it was out)
Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. |

your camera's native files already have an 8x12 ratio. unless you need to crop in tighter, you do not need to crop at all.
if you do need to crop in, lightroom's default crop ratio is 8x12.
if you do need to crop in all of your images, you can crop the first one, then use the sync function to apply the crop to all the selected images. (and if need be, you can scan through the images to tweak the individual image's cropping.)
if you want to produce actual 8x12 images, you handle this through lightroom's export function. in the export dialog, simply check off the "Resize to Fit" and set Long Edge to 12" in the "Image Sizing" section (and set your dpi to whatever you need).
bottom line: you can handle all of this in lightroom without having to bother with photoshop. |

The default crop ratio is whatever the ratio of the picture is. It doesn't default to any specific ratio.
