Wines from the homeland?

Yeah!!! Break out the Minnesota wines!

Bulls blood is from Eger in northern Hungary. It is still around and still pretty cheap.

BTW if the guy you worked for drank cheap Hungarian wine, then he wasn't really a wine-snob. Snobs turn down the cheap, even if it is good, don't they?

That's why I call myself an aficionado rather than a snob... Even if I might tend towards the more expensive sauce. After all, as a general rule, there usually is a reason the expensive stuff is expensive. :)

Hungary, yeah that's it, wow thanks! And yes, by wine-snob I meant he was well-versed in wines. Or at least it seemed so to me. But I don't know much about wines, except what tastes good to me.

ETA... yeah, afficionado.

I've done a couple of long & involved (blind) whiskey taste testings while taking notes, and revisiting my top rateds, from cheap to very-expensive, and admit that I ended up with the most expensive few at the top of my list, sadly. But on their own, I still like the cheap ones.... I guess it's like sex...

My usual quip is:
I'm not a connoisseur... just a "seur."

For Slippy...

I...like...wi-ine! We tend to find local wines fairly cheap (TX wines) and since Costco offers some of the great wines and the local winery where I went to University has a wine club...I cheaply drink wine, lol!

I've also learned that depending on the press of the grapes, the taste and price are affected in wine of the same name. And if you've not tried it, organic wines are the bomb! No hangover, even for those of us that can REALLY enjoy wine. *snicker*

Most folks who react badly to red wine are sensitive to sulfites, a compound that occurs naturally in reds, and are often added to increase stabilization of the wines. While organic wines often add fewer sulfites they are still present, so if you get fewer hangovers with organic wine, you may be sensitive to sulfites.

Red wine gives me migraines. I prefer my wine white & bubbly.

eta: I once had a drunk boss give me a case of Cristal. Two days later, he asked if I still had it. I didn't, but I did have a good ole time. ;D

Stilton Cheese, grapes and wine. It does not matter what the wine tastes like, but grapes and wine make the stilton shine.

When I was in Italy, mostly the Piemonte region, I drank local wine every night with dinner. The "house" wines cheap and really good, but the local bottled wines were what took wine to am entirely new level for me. Unfortunately, it seems the Italians keep the best for themselves because what few Piemonte wines I've been able to find here in the states are just shadows of what I had there. They've also been prohibitively expensive here too. OK, the best ones were expensive in Italy too, but the company was paying...
