OK so not really, but today I spent the day covering 9-11 10th year anniversary. Tonight's was being held and they showed a video and did a candlelight memorial. So I figured I'd try out my hand holding skills and the high ISO of the D3s in some really tough conditions. I'll post a few more tonight after I submit to the paper, or tomorrow since I really need some sleep. But this is good quality at 6400ISO F2.8 1/25 handheld with the 70-200VRII at 200MM! I'll take it all day(or night)

I had D700 and it couldn't touch the High ISO of my D3s, very close to the D3 yes, but no where near what the D3s will do. But still a world ahead of where Nikon was when I was searching for a replacement for my Olympus digital stuff 4 or so years back.

I shot pro series Olympus stuff, moved over to Canon Pro stuff for over 4 years, when Canon gave me some flack over repairing a lens I was having issues with, in a huff I sold all of my canon stuff-minus printers, and moved to pro Nikon stuff. I'm sure glad I did. I've been extremely happy since I did. The only draw back is the price of super telephotos, but Canon is raising all of their prices so it's almost a wash now.

I have to say, I'm seriously contemplating the D3s...I hate using noise reduction, and there never seems to be enough light. The full size D3s samples I've seen seem like a dream!
It's a lot of money though!

Neil, I've owned too many cameras to list, kind of ashamed at the amount of money I've spent to be honest. But this is the best camera of any brand I've ever shot. And I've weilded many! I even hate to compare my D3 to it and it's still not too shabby.

Good grief.. why was this thread not started earlier. I have invested so much in Canon, it would be a sin to sell all and move to Nikon. Now I will never know what my shots would have looked like had it been with Nikon. At least now I could offer this as an excuse for my inferior images. Maybe in 6 months from now Canon will catch up with Nikon and then I wont have to switch and save myself a fortune. :) All in good spirit. I love Nikon But I shoot Canon
Seriously though.. Those images looks impressive. I batteled the other nite at 1250 iso with my cam. Hoping Canon will catchup soon

Someone really needs to slow down his intake of caffeine, or meth. I'm not sure which. :D

You barely have an investment in lenses, when I switched I sold over 20K worth of Used Canon glass, bodies, and flashes. :D
BTW I will add, my use of cameras is likely a bit different then most, so I would not advise doing such if you don't need it, and 90% or more won't.

Very impressive results.
33 years ago my first camera was a Nikon FM. Loved it. Over time for whatever reason (not smart ones) I ended up with other cameras. But that whole time I kept saying/thinking these cameras do not compare to my first Nikon. Well last year I went back to Nikon and so happy I did. I will never leave again. The other day I tried my 33 year old Nikon MF 50mm f1.4 on my Nikon D300s and was amazed that it actually worked. Maybe one day I can make some extra money to help be support my habit :) |

I love that lens. And trust me, it will outlive any dSLR body you'll ever own. (Actually your FM2 will also outlive them!) |

I can't work the magic like Terry does with her Olympus. So it must be the user and not the camera.
Today, by odd coincidence, I got a brochure in the mail for Nikon School. Must be a sign!

The 7000 is pretty good about noise at high iso too, and I love that it meters and shoots in aperture priority with anything that fits on the F mount including telescopes. It even meters hand holding a Canon lens in front of the hole. I have a good stash of old manual Nikkor's and other Ai mount glass, so it's a big plus for me.
