even though i use a Nikon and the focal lengh will be a bit different I feel I can still comment about sigma lenses as I have 2 of them 20-40mm F2.8EX-DG and a 170-500mm F5 AF-D I looked long and hard at the 28-135mm Sigma for Nikon and ended up going with the Nikon 28-105mm simply because they had one secondhand in the shop and it was cheaper than buying the Sigma new. to be honest I noticed very little (if any) difference between the 2 lenses and have had great results from my other Sigma lenses, I would not hesitate to buy a Sigma lens these days, going back a few years though companies like Tamron and Sigma were quite laughable and a very cheap alternative but these days they are up with the big boys when it comes to the top of the range lenses they make such as the EX-D range, simply faultless. I always prefer a lower F-stop with all my lenses if possible. I don't think you will dissapointed with it. good luck.

Photozone.de rates this (Sigma AF 3.8-5.6 28-135mm IF Aspherical macro)lens as 2.72 (3) = sub-average
better zoom might be the tamron 24-135 but it's more than twice the cost of the sigma at adorama.com
the 50/1.8 is a must have for anyone especially considering the price, one of my absolute favorites.
Actually i'm sort of in the market again for a few lenses and am considering the tamron but i'm also in need of a faster zoom of higher quality such as the tamron 28-75 but my big question to myself is "do I really need to have a fast and a slow zoom that covers such a similar focal range?" :)
