So, I ordered this print about a month ago.
- 18x56 1.5" Gallery Wrap Canvas from Canvas On Demand (quality is excellent)
I liked it so much I went ahead today and ordered another 5 prints. :)
20x30 Aluminum from Full Metal Photos (will review)
20x30 1.5" Gallery Wrap Canvas from Canvas on Demand
16x24 1.5" Gallery Wrap Canvas from Cafe Press (will review)
I really can't wait for these to arrive.....

I bought a crap-load of groupons, and then purchased from Canvas on Demand, Cafe Press, and Full Metal Photos..
I've added that info above. :) And I'll review the prints when they come in. |

I never had any of my photos on my wall until Groupons came out. Now I've got them all over the place at home and at work.

Recommend you create a Pro Account at COD, if you haven't already done so. I think you will find you will beat the retail price, less groupon, most of the time. And, occasionally, COD offers significant (10%, 20%, 30%) discounts off of the pro pricing.

I had a customer call me yesterday about an image that they like to put in their bathroom. They want something that can take the heat and humidity and I suggested prints on aluminum. I don't have any experience with them at all...I haven't ordered or seen one.
I look forward to your review, Cory. In the meantime, has anybody else seen these or had them produced for them? Where? How did it turn out? |

I've seen one done in B&W ... I'm pretty sure I've seen a couple of previous threads about this in the past few months -- you could try a more extensive search and see if you can find a link. |

I got a print done at fullmetal. Interesting idea but I was not keen on the final product. Wouldnt order another. We have also tried canvas prints from several different places and CoD stands the best by far. |

I thought about it, but that's too much effort. I think that I'll just start a new thread on the subject for people to respond to. ;) |

You could just come to South Beach in a few weeks and take a look...
I've also got a couple of samples you can borrow/have if you'd like - the stuff is amazing - not only will it take heat/moisture/corrosion/etc, it also will bear quite a bit of physical abuse, I've experimented with the samples, even taking a set of keys to it in a striking matter doesn't really affect the print very much..
Take all of that on top of the incredible luster and it's unreal.
One piece of advice, the white coated is best for things that need true color and true white, the brushed/luster finish is best for stuff you want to have a nice glow, but the whites become a bit of a gray.

Thanks, Cory. I might have to take you up on the offer to see and possibly borrow a sample to show my customer.
Actually, the customer in this case is my neighbor. I don't like profiting from my family, friends, or neighbors, so there isn't much in this for me. That and the fact that I am burnt out from the last couple days of work is why I'm not very motivated to jump up from this chair right now and head to the beach to do this. I'll follow up with my neighbor tomorrow and take it from there.
Thanks again for the offer. |

Sure. I, of course, won't be back in town until next weekend, but you would be most welcome to borrow all of my samples.

So after a good wait, I should report back on the experiences with these companies.
The Full Metal Photos are excellent quality. Now, with that being said, this is the second run on 2 out of 3. The first run had major problems with the flower and the abstract (the flour mill hdr looked great).. After a bit of chatting about it, and sending multiple requests and photos/explanations, they did agree to fix the issues. Granted, I do think this was more difficult than it should have been, but, in the end they really did make things perfectly right, and I am a happy customer. But beware, make very sure you have excellent proof of exactly what you ordered, as they may not get it right the first time around.
The Canvas on Demand shots are just superb. Nothing more needs to be said - they've gotten it 100% right on multiple orders, but they are slow to deliver, for understandable reasons.
The Cafe Press shot is also just fine. I don't really like it as well as the others, but I think that is because of a misunderstanding between their ordering system and myself. I thought that I should crop the image to what I wanted on the front of the canvas - which was correct for both Full Metal Photos and Canvas on Demand. However, Cafe Press does full-wrap, where the image size you send is printed, then wrapped around a frame, giving you only part of the full image on the front of the canvas. Unfortunately, in this case, that means my eagle reflection is hidden on the bottom of the canvas. Still quality is fine, and if I had expected this I'd love to have done a full-wrap canvas - I just would have cropped differently. So in this case the real key is making sure that they are given the proper margin around the image to print and wrap. |

What is the thickness of the aluminum, Cory? |
