I can't provide direct experience, but I can provide relevant experience here.
I have two lenses that have the older Nikon coating, the SIC instead of Nano Crystal, and I'll tell you now that I wish those lenses had the Nano because there have been enough times with them that I end up with annoying and nasty flares and oddities from glare on the lens that was invisible on the LCD and the viewfinder. My frustration is that it's difficult to tell if they are in a shot until it's too late and I've gone home, so for me, $14 for that improved peace of mind is worth it.
I can't say how MUCH better the coatings are to each other, in comparison, but that garbage is a PITA to deal with, and $14 may go a good way towards preventing that.
That's my take, anyway.
ETA: They can be VERY frustrating to fix in post, as well.
