hi everyone i was wondering if all lenses are standard when they say 18mm from one brand to another. example canon 18mm (kit lense) and zenitar 17mm. i konw there is 1 stop difference, but not more than that right? becasue im looking for a wide lense and want to know if it would make big difference in the angle. thanks

The millimetre distance on all lenses are comparable, so you can comparethe Canon to a Zenitar.
Bear in mind that doesn't mean you can compare lenses on different cameras, because, for instance, the 300D has a 1.6x crop factor (100mm * 1.6 = 160mm), whereas the Nikon D70 has a 1.5x crop factor (100mm * 1.5 = 150mm).
As far as you're concerned, for your 300D, compare away.. |

Also be careful with comparing fisheye with recilinear (normal) wide angle lenses. A 15mm fisheye will have a much wider angle of view than a 15mm recilinear lens (on the same camera), but with more distortion.
