Just nipped into the garden with the 50mm f/1.8 mk1 to try out the dof. I managed to get to 3.5 and 1/1000 I think I'm going to enjoy this lens, especially when the sun goes down :)

Anybody id the flower?

sized
big crop

That's a passion flower. Looks promising. Wait till later in the afternoon and reshoot when the sun isn't so strong.

That is a neat looking flower. I have no idea what it is.

Why would you crop the bee picture? I know you want to show us the bee closer but try using the camera to get closer, if you can't get that close then use the appropriate len for macros. :-)

As scalvert says its a Passion flower and yes its a great looker :)

As for the cropping your right I wanted to show both the bee and also the shallow dof with the 50mm. Was just outside playing with my new lens and wasn't hunting for flying friends. I don't have the 'appropriate' macro lens (yet) but would have been outside with my 75-300 IS if it was bug time :)

Cropped this ever so slightly to remove a twig.

mp, I was told to hold out for the mk1, no USM (so what) much better build quality, dof window and metal mount. Cost me £70 so 1/4 the price of my other lenses thus far.
