Another reason for us all to dump photography and go into framing.

Why do we have to enlighten people to common sense?

A business is proud to have hired a design company to matte, frame and hang a photo in their newly created gallery, complete with engraved plaque describing the scene and the photographer. But when they phone to ask the photographer for the high res file (and permission), they are dumbfounded when HE expects to be paid.

It's always SO expected that a photographer will always be SO pumped to get some recognition, some back-patting, some ego-boosting, that they will give it all for free.

After ten minutes of phone conversation, he finally agreed that I deserve to be paid, while the other photographers don't, and that my photo is by far the best of the two dozen selected from hundreds.

But now it's up to him to convince the rest of the board.

*sigh*

This is why I'm going to become a chainsaw wood carver. Screw photography, it's stupid.

I suggest you consider marketing a line of rustic, rough-cut, wooden picture frames ... and don't forget to buy some chain oil and a file ... ;-)

ETA: You should have said you'd be glad to send him the hi-res file for free ... plus a nominal $175 shipping and handling charge ...

Don't forget to take a picture of you making the frame then you can hang them together.

I'm going to retire to Muskoka and spend my spare time chainsawing logs into bears to sell to the cottagers. They go batshit for that crap. I don't think too many people will ask for freebies while I have an idling chainsaw in my hand.
