I've had a phone go through the washing machine. Broke it down into about 50 individual pieces and let them dry apart for a few days. Put it all back together and it worked great!
Not sure if I would be brave enough to do that with my camera body or lens

Sometime I like to play with blue sparking of lens coating :) |

I knew a guy who put golf balls in the microwave early one morning (thinking warm balls would fly further on a cold day) well, the liquid centers exploded and blew the door off the microwave. |
Well technically your friend is right... warm golf balls do fly further. In fact with a driver - the ball will fly about 1 foot further for every degree Fahrenheit increase.
But I still wouldnt put it in a microwave... your pocket is normally good enough for a cold day... just like camera batteries in freezing weather to help them last longer. |

However, next time anything electronic falls in the water, make sure you turn it off and leave it off until it is completely dry (inside and out). Open all of your compartments (battery, sd, etc) to help speed up the process. Otherwise the liquid can (and Murphy's Law states that it will) cause it to short out if any gets inside. |
I have never tried it but my IT guy at work swear by it:
If some electronic thing gets wet (and even if it sugary like Coke etc), take out the battery immediately, immerse it in methylated spirits (it helps to get rid of some of the sugar), then let it dry out (rice is good) |
