Entry:
Outtake was the tree to the left of them, the same one I have entered a few times before, and it was my first ribbon. I decided the single tree would not be perceived as a landscape in portrait, but as a vertical tree in portrait. The two trees worked better for the topic.
I also considered soliciting some harsh critiques with a sideways marquee border:

Loved the original entry and gave it a great score. Number 2 is terrific, too. Number 3's bizarre vertical letterbox is too much for me. You made the right choice for your entry. |

My original thought was an egret or gbh (great blue heron) standing, but in a horizontal crop. But when I got one flying, I had to change it to a horizontal bird in a vertical crop. :)
