i am creating a photobook, 9x10.25 is the book size and some pages will have full page images, what is the minimum size and resolution i should export my files to?

I am using lightroom 3 and these images are coming from 18mp Raw files. also what file type works best and should i be concerned with color spaces or any other settings when i export?

I would shoot for 300 dpi.

IMHO, color space would always be a concern... but for me it\'s more of a send it off and pray because I\'ve never figured out how the color profile stuff works... I guess the biggest question is who is doing your book? Shutterfly has a short section in their FAQ that addresses most of your questions regarding file type (JPEG only for them), color space (sRGB--if you use Adobe RGB, they say to resave in sRGB), etc. Since I'm new, I can post the shutterfly link directly, but if you put dub dub dub dot shutterfly dot com in front of the slash below, you'll get the FAQ.

/selling_photos_online/professional_photography/sell_photos_online_faq.jsp#e1

Other services probably have a similar FAQ, and if you can\'t find them, just hit the contact them link.

If Lightroom has a photobook constructor like iPhoto/Aperture does maybe it handles everything and knows what the book people like, if they\'re affiliated.

Related, but not directly answering a question... I saw a very thorough review about 6-12 months ago (quite a range I know). A guy used 10-12 different sites (places like, but not necessarily including, Apple/iPhoto, Shutterfly, or Zazzle) to create and order photobooks from each. There were some definite winners, so if someone recalls where that review is, I would appreciate looking at it again.

One of those maybe?

The second link was what I read a while back. Thanks!

My first impression is that his review is somewhat more subjective than the first link, at least in style of writing. Prob just need to read both. I've been wanting to do a photobook, and wanted to find this link first, so thanks again. :)

So Mike... I assume you're using an online service? Sounds like you already chose the provider, so I apologize for introducing all these other options and maybe dragging you back a step... but back to the point, every printer is going to be different, and you really just have to read the FAQ's or contact them to see what they tell you.

Hope this helps!

Color spaces can be very confusing. When in doubt always use sRGB.

If your saving as a JPEG you will always use sRGB. Most sites and applications assume all JPEG's are sRGB and ignore any color space identifier. And if they ignore the color space identifier you will know it when you look at your uploaded image. An AdobeRGB or ProPhoto RBG image will look very dull and washed out when mistaken for sRGB. JPEG's are also 8-bit color which can cause ugly banding when using larger color spaces like AdobeRGB or ProPhoto RGB. If you use a site that supports TIFF uploads it gets a little more complicated. Read up on their FAQ's and see what they support. Most will still only support sRGB. If they do support other color spaces only use them if you have TIFF's with more then 8 bits per color (due to possible banding). But if they do support 16-bit TIFF's and larger color spaces then you might as will use AdobeRGB or ProPhoto RGB. They will be able to produce more vivid and true color then the best monitor you can buy.

-edit-
I should mention before someone corrects me...
If exporting to PhotoShop always use ProPhoto RGB or AdobeRGB at 10-bit or higher. This will give you a lot of wiggle room to edit.
