To the oppositions annoyance, Cameron played a blinder in the House of Commons this morning.

I don't know about the oppositions annoyance. Pretty much all parties seemed to agree and, as many people have noted, if you didn't know who was given the speeches it was almost impossible to tell whether it was Tory, Labour or Lib Dem. They certainly got a lot done.

I'm very pleased that the riots and unrest were brought under control without the use of plastic bullets etc. The police said they didn't want to use them and, as i hoped up thread, more police organisation and numbers did the trick. They've got them for the future though but lets hope it doesn't come to that. Also, it was obvious that water cannons were impractical and pretty useless in this case but they've got the 24 hours call thing.

I have to say, though, coming back to Cameron and friends, that i agree with Peter Oborne at The Telegraph when he talks of hypocracy. I think he does have a huge point. (and please remember, before the 'socialist claptrap' comments start, that this is from a right wing, traditionally Conservative supporting commentator and newspaper- i'm pleased to read that sort of sense there)

Oh, yes. Good news on the 1886 Riot Act. Good news for many trying to rebuild their businesses and lives.

Very good article - and you know what - its not just the social elite who are guilty of this - it goes on in every social class _ i know I can be a complete snob when it comes to passing judgement (and sneering) on some of my neighbors! 10 years ago I wasn't like this at all - I have become far more judgmental and a lot more right wing than I was back then.

Thank you Clive Patric. At last some of the dots are being connected. Further reading: Griftopia, by Matt Taibbi (Bubble Machines, Vampire Squids, and the Long Con That Is Breaking America), and new yorker article.
