Hello,
Say I have a photo that has some parts that are (should be) translucent....not see through but almost. The "part" would be a "neutral" color almost "amber".
What is the best way to bring out a more translucent quality? At first I thought to "dodge" it but that just lightened it up...and it is already "light".
Is there an adjustment layer I would use along with the dodge tool?
Sorry I can't post the photo.
Thanks !

You could put it in layers and mask off the area with a light grey brush to get the opacity you like, perhaps with a solid color under it that would read best as "Im not here".
Legality may vary for entries, but that's the approach I would use for normal work. |

You might try increasing contest slightly and mask if necessary to constrain the effect. |

I would also recommend a localized increase in contrast. Sometimes, creating a broadly-feathered selection, then just bringing in both the black and white points will make a big difference. Otherwise, you can always use an "S" curve to raise contrast just in the mid-tones. Which technique works best depends on the image. I've used both together as well.
