I'm in Memphis TN and last night I may have shot the best skyline night photo I've ever shot, maybe the best photo I've ever taken, and NO way to edit it on my hubs lap top... Waaaahhhhhh... Of course thats viewing it on the back of my camera so it may suck totaly, can't even open them since I shoot in raw and hubby don't want me to even put Ps elements on this machiine!
On a happier note I did get to put my mace in a nutty, higher than hooters goat dude's face last night while shooting.. Yeah I love big cities :^( |

If he doesn't want elements on his computer, he sure won't go for Gimp. Sounds like you need your own laptop.

I edited a shot while on travel once to enter a challenge--downloaded the free GIMP tool, did a simple edit. I don't know whether it handles raws or not, but you should be able to use a simple edit feature on your d90, and it will create a jpg version. Then you could edit the jpg with gimp if need be.
Can uninstall gimp after you are done :-)

What about a web hosted, browser based editor? Should be enough for some essential tweaks. There are a few out there.

Yup. That's what I was going to say. Download the trial version of elements.
However, my motherinlaw is on DSL, and when I was in Minnesota, it said it was going to take 4 hours.
I didn't enter anything in Minnesota. :(
(I downloaded photoshop trial on my mom's computer the year before -- it only took about 20 minutes via a cable modem.)
(and delete it when you're done)

when you are looking at the image on the back, hit menu, select the icon item from the left column with the paintbrush, and you get some retouch options--pick one, apply something, and hit ok, and you have saved a jpg. |

it creates a separate file with another _CS filename, instead of the _DS version. It does not eliminate the original, and makes no mods to it as far as I know. I just did it on my d90, it creates a _CSxxxxx jpeg file, separate from the source _DS RAW file, all in the same folder on the card
