Hi,
First time posting on the boards so I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this question.
I have a Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens that I received with my Canon T1i less than a year ago.
Here lately when I go to focus on something it misses and tells me the blurry area it's made is what is in focus.
Once or twice is not a big deal but it seems to be increasing. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they had to do.
Feedback greatly appreciated. |

Welcome Zach.
Two things come to mind for me:
1) Is your diopter adjustment off? If you aren't sure what that is, this article may help: //www.digital-photography-school.com/using-diopter-adjustment
2) Are you using a specific focus point, or are you letting the camera pick the focus point? I have never trusted the camera trying to know what I want to focus on, so I always manually select my focus point. |

| I had a similar issue with my 100-400, a quick trip back to Canon (less than a year, it's free, do it now!) and they adjusted the lens - performance has been very good since. |

giantmike - I've been using specific focus point, which seems to have worked ok for me up til now. Also the diopter thing wasn't the problem but now i know that that dial is for, thankyou!
Cory - It's looking like I'll probably send it in. About how long did it take for them to get your lens back to you?

| Maybe a silly question, but have you tried another lens to establish camera or lens ? |

I got a similar problem some time ago.
I fixed it by switching to the manual focus, and turning and lightly pulling on the focus ring.
After that, the auto-focus worked. It was like if something was stuck.

Tiny: Sadly I only have one lens, saving up though.
Also thankyou for the compliment on the site, I appreciate it. I plan on entering some contests soon!
