I've had my shiny new Canon 7d for a few days now and I am very happy, Its gunna take a while to learn the new functions but thats cool. It replaces my 450d which i lost (a long sad story)
But my small problems is in bridge (on my mac) it only opens the raw files that are shot in its highest resolution 18m.
When i shot in either MRAW or SRAW neither bridge or photo shop with open the images.
I am running SC4 with Adobe camera raw version 5.5.0.97
Any clues ?
i know there is a later very of ACR but the read-me says it is only for sc5.
I thought i would try here first before i lash out and buy CS5 or bugger up the rest of my system trying to fix this
Cheers
Craig

Camera Raw 5.6 update This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe® Creative Suite® 4 or Adobe® Photoshop® CS4 software. |

One thing that has always puzzled me; Why does a person want to shoot a small RAW file? I have never used that setting. I've shot JPEGs in all the available sizes, by why shoot RAW in anything but the biggest size you can get? |

Thanks Faidoi, got it going now.
BrennanOB, i read this article
//www.kenrockwell.com/canon/7d/users-guide/
while i dont believe everything i read on the internet, i thought it worth testing for myself.
Then this weird behavior with PS that didnt open the smaller raw files.
I just wanted it to work.

I'd love it if my camera let me shoot mRAW or sRAW. As it is, I don't like converting the RAWs to JPGs when doing birthday parties and family gatherings, but I feel 25mb is a pretty large file for one picture. I'm satisfied with the quality of my 8mb RAWs on my 30D and am glad if I upgrade it doesn't mean files that are automatically going to be 3x as big. I'd like the ability to control that. |

What Ken says in this case makes some sense (did I just say that??) in certain situations. Bottom line, if I'm limited by my computer, I may find advantages. He's correct that even a 4.5Mpx "S" sized image will pack more detail than a 4.5Mpx camera, but there will be jaggies and moire to deal with because the image is undersampled. As long as I *do* have the drive space and processor power, I will *always* shoot at highest resolution and downsample later as desired for the particular application. If I need all my original resolution, I'll just re-export at full size, and Bob's my uncle!
One bit of hyperbole in Ken's write-up is that "nobody needs 18Mpx." Bah. Stuff like this is why my opinion is Genius or >>Fool<<. As an example, I shot up at EAA's Airventure show yesterday, and I'll tell you, for the airshow shots, I sure wished I was shooting a 5D MkII. The extra resolution would have been a real boon. |
